Program Description:
The Pediatric Surgery Basic Science conference is a weekly forum that presents translational and clinical research conducted by individuals in the Division of Pediatric Surgery, as well as by faculty and staff of the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, the Medical College of Wisconsin, and invited guests.Providing exposure to contemporary scientific investigation is critical in the educational development of our trainees, and for faculty maintenance of competency in our field. A number of faculty in our division have ongoing research in clinical and/or basic science areas and it is important that the other clinical faculty in the division be kept abreast of these projects to facilitate vetting of the research ideas for feasibility and enrollment and allow for ongoing updates with regard to research design and implementation. We also invite other faculty from other pediatric disciplines to update the pediatric surgery faculty on their own research and how it may affect patient care for those patients cared for by the pediatric surgery division.

The activity will address those patients served by the practicing pediatric surgeon – these include the fetus, infants, children, and teenagers up to 18 years of age, as well as those young adults with childhood-related congenital malformations that may be cared for by the practicing pediatric surgeon in addition to those patients with special needs that are often served by pediatric surgeons regardless of patient age.
