2018 MCW Spine Research Day

MCW Spine Research Day will be a one day CE course reviewing relevant spine related research in a variety of areas as well as reviews of relevant clinical practice guidelines. The day will be made up of several presentations from a variety of professions. Some topics cover treatment options that do not fall within the scope practice of for a chiropractor however part of clinical practice is understanding the utility of other treatment options and when a referral may be appropriate to provide a patient with more comprehensive treatment options. This event will highlight recent research in the areas of spinal biomechanics, spinal imaging and cervical spine injury during concussion, as well as review best practices and recent guidelines for treatment of spine related disorders as it relates to injections, non-surgical treatment guidelines, imaging of the spine in spine related disorders, spine injections, pregnancy related back pain, surgical options for radiculopathy, spinal cord stimulators, and cervical spine involvement in concussion patients. This will be done through a series of lectures. Following the symposium attendees will fill out a survey regarding their experience at the event. 

Target Audience

This symposium is designed for any provider who treats patients with spine related disorders and is interested in understanding recent research in the area as well as the recent evidence based guidelines as well as researchers interested in topics related to the spine.
 

Learning Objectives

  • Review of recent topics in spinal biomechanics research
  • Review of recent topics in spine related imaging research
  • Review of spinal stenosis and relevant treatment options
  • Review of evidence based imaging in the diagnosis and management of spine related disorders
  • Review of clinical practice guidelines for the non-operative management of neck and back pain
  • Review of the evidence based role for spinal injections in the management of spine related disorders
  • Review of pre-post partum low back pain and evidence based management of these conditions
  • Review of the role for spinal cord stimulators in the management of spine related disorders.
  • Review of current evidence on the role of the cervical spine in mTBI
