Program Description: 

This weekly transplant service line lecture serves as an educational forum for team members, providing an opportunity to discuss a variety of clinical, surgical, and system-based topics relevant to transplant care. It promotes interdisciplinary learning, case-based discussions, and continuous improvement in patient management.

  • Evaluate the epidemiology, demographic patterns, and mortality burden of SCD using current global and national data
  • Explain the pathogenesis and clinical presentation of sickle cell liver disease (SCLD) across the spectrum of sickle hepatopathy
  • Apply a structured diagnostic approach to SCLD
  • Interpret liver transplant indications and outcomes in patients with SCLD
  • Analyze health disparities affecting patients with SCD, including racial, geographic, and socioeconomic factors contributing to differences in morbidity and mortality
