Program Description:

The Zablocki VAMC Grand Rounds focuses on medical and healthcare issues that are relevant to the veteran population/patients, our healthcare system, or our local facility due to care transformation initiatives, emerging science, data which indicated opportunities for improvement in care quality/safety, or staff interest/need for further education.  In the coming year, we will have planned/proposed presentations on: Ethics Consultation  [All employee surveys indicate ongoing staff need/desire for education in organizational ethics and ethics consultation],  Access to care [While mandated processes in the Veterans Choice law required referral to the community care providers when appointments for routine specialty care that was not available in 30 days, the Choice network had very poor geographic and timeliness access within our facility service areas; and the Choice network third party administrator was not providing timely or complete follow-up on referrals],  Innovation [Front-line employees often have the novel ideas to address problems within their work area.  Innovation program will share some locally developed solutions to stimulate further improvement efforts],  Telehealth [Telehealth disease management programs demonstrate significant improvements in care outcomes with reduced costs of care for enrolled patients; however, further marketing is needed to raise awareness of the programs which have targets for increasing the number of veterans enrolled in telehealth], Primary Care Mental Health Integration [Embedding mental health care within primary care addresses the need for improved coordination of care—especially within veteran population which has a high prevalence of mental illness
