Clinical Practice Update 204

Stephen Warnick Jr, MD,  Laraib Mehdi, MD

Use of complementary and alternative (CAM) treatments for depression remains common among patients with depression, yet many behavioral health professionals are unaware of data supporting or refuting the efficacy of these treatments. This session will use a case-based, interactive small group method to discuss how different CAM approaches could be helpful or harmful to patients. We will specifically review the evidence for St. John’s Wort, S-adenyl-methionine, Omega 3 fatty acids, N-acetyl-carnitine, methylfolate, lavender, saffron, Vitamin D, light therapy, exercise, yoga, and acupuncture. At the end of this session participants will also leave with resources on CAM in depression to help their patients.
