ACGME has recognized a need for physician wellness programs and has made some great stride initiatives including, its’ CLER program (Clinical Learning Environment Review) and Action Collaborative on Clinician Well Being and Resilience. The American Medical Association (AMA) has also implemented a Steps Forward program to better advocate physician wellness. Professional burnout has reached critical levels among physicians in the United States. More than 40% of physicians—and 50% of female physicians—are burned out, according to Medscape's 2019 National Physicians Burnout & Depression Report.  "THE SUNSHINE WELLNESS PROJECT: Healing Thy Healer" was created by a neurologist with first hand knowledge of burnout , with the hopes of combining  his knowledge of brain science and mindfulness into practical and inspiring teaching based format for medical staff.  The mission of project is to inspire and integrate mindfulness tools and practice within individual physicians to amplify their power to heal themselves and their patients. The vision of the project is to integrate a core mindfulness curriculum into residency practices and in our community of doctors to improve physician well being and career satisfaction. This program promotes 1) creating a wellness framework 2) develop a wellness program 3) foster individual wellness 4) empower faculty to confront physician burnout 5) create a sustainable culture of wellness and resiliency. We will outline our research-based methods which can be tailor made for any medical institution and present our research findings from a study which utilized this project.
