40th Annual Midwinter Retina Symposium: History and Evolution of Retinal Detachment Management

Milwaukee, WI US
February 11, 2023

Please join us for the 40th annual Midwinter Retina Symposium on February 11, 2023. At this year's event we will focus on the history and evolution of retinal detachment management and what today's landscape looks like. Our event features guest speakers Edwin H. Ryan Jr., MD, retina specialist at Retina Consultants of Minnesota and Gareth M.C. Lema, MD, PhD, associate professor of ophthalmology and retina specialist at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Target Audience

This educational activity is aimed at practicing ophthalmologists, subspecialty ophthalmologists, fellows, residents, optometrists, medical students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, vision scientists and retina photographers.

Learning Objectives

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • To highlight retinal diagnoses that may be encountered in the primary eye care setting, and to gain familiarity with what further testing or imaging may be conducted by a retinal specialist.
  • Provide an in-depth look at the patient’s journey when diagnosed with a surgical retina problem, with a focus on retinal detachment. This will include what information a primary eye care provider should provide with referral, what the timing of referral should be, how clinic/surgical procedures are arranged and what those may involve, as well as post-operative complications.
  • Present visual and functional outcomes data for retinal detachment surgery and how the time from diagnosis to surgery can affect this.
