This educational activity is designed to provide a learning environment that provides interactive discussions on up to date medical information, treatment plans, options and protocols, along with the risks, benefits and outcomes of treatment on adult musculoskeletal oncology patients. This is a discussed in a multidisciplinary format that creates a well rounded unbiased discussion amongst colleagues. It creates an environment for dynamic discussion and debates on patient care and the treatment resources available. It provides the opportunity for consistent tailored individual treatment protocols per patient.
Synopsis:
What is the clinical/research/teaching/administrative issue you want to address?
- Discuss treatment plans/options/protocols for newly diagnosed and /or established adult musculoskeletal oncology patients
- Discuss treatment outcomes in comparison to the standard of care in evidence based medicine
- Collaborate research efforts and establish research studies based on findings
- Continue strengthening the multidisciplinary relationships that have evolved over the many years since this tumor board was established. These relationships continue to provide new collaborations, increased respect, referrals, utilization of treatment resources, and consistent continuity of care.
Adult musculoskeletal oncology patients represent a unique spectrum of cancer patients that are treated as an individual with a tailored evidence-based medicine approach. This approach is based on proven outcomes of treatment protocols, literature evaluations and research outcomes which are then applied to the patient’s protocol. This workshop creates a collaboration of multidisciplinary providers to create plans of treatment and continuity of care between disciplines, while keeping in mind the most up to date trends, strategies, protocols, and clinical trials. This workshop discusses the diverse treatment options available at our treatment center. We want to create relationships and consistent outcomes.- Our own research studies are showing patient outcomes (survival, complications, etc) data that is either equal or better in comparison to other published Sarcoma Centers in the country
- Collaboration on a multidisciplinary level has shown that consistency and continuity of care has improved the direct care/outcome of the patient and created a relationship/respect between disciplines
- Evidence based medicine approach based on the individual outcomes of each patient reviewed at tumor board in comparison to the literature
