41st Annual Midwest Glaucoma Symposium and the Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute 2018 Annual Symposium

The purpose of this symposium is to present current methods and new advances in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma with an emphasis on new diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical approaches to patient care.

Target Audience

This educational activity is aimed at practicing ophthalmologists, subspecialty ophthalmologists, optometrists, ophthalmology residents and fellows interested in learning about and incorporating new advances into their clinical practice. The program is also designed for vision scientists who are working in the areas of translational research and interested in advancements in vision care.

Learning Objectives

  • Highlight glaucoma diagnostic advances, including tonometry, visual fields, imaging, and possible interaction of intraocular and intracranial pressures
  • Review glaucoma therapeutic approaches from novel drug delivery, newly-approved medications, and potential gene therapy through classic filtering procedures (trabeculectomy and aqueous shunts)
  • Consider less-invasive glaucoma procedures, including critical evaluation of the literature and patient selection, as well as the ethics related to adopting new procedures
  • Revisit angle-closure glaucoma from gonioscopy to role of cataract surgery and goniosynechialysis
  • Understand role of registries, such as AAO IRIS, in current and future healthcare
