Breast Care 101: What You Need to Know

Brown Deer, WI US
November 9, 2018

This one-day educational activity is designed to improve the knowledge of primary care physicians and gynecologists about the treatment of breast cancer patients and the care of these patients in the survivorship period. The treatment of breast cancer is constantly changing from surgical approaches to screening guidelines to chemotherapy regimens. These changes affect post-treatment sequelae in patients who are often seen by primary care physicians and gynecologists. As our cancer survivor population grows, it will be important for these physicians to be able to identify which treatments patients have received for their breast cancer, the downstream side effects they will experience as a result of those treatments, and how to treat those side effects. The published literature shows that primary care providers often do not feel prepared for this role or are unaware of current guidelines. The purpose of our activity is to provide the knowledge base for the treatment of breast cancer patients and how to care for them in survivorship. This program will also discuss the treatment of benign breast disease.
