Forward2020 Surgical Oncology Virtual Symposium
Multidisciplinary management of cancer is evolving, treatment algorithms are increasingly complex, involving care by surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and medical oncologists.
This workshop will highlight the multidisciplinary approach and current national and international guidelines for these complex diseases, including guidelines that have been published within the past year, in an effort to further the discussion on optimal patient care and the importance of multidisciplinary, high-volume care. The intent is for clinicians attending to be able to better develop multidisciplinary programs at their own institutions.

Learning Objectives
Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
Describe the optimal management algorithm in the evaluation, staging, and treatment of patients with: Advanced melanoma
- Pancreatic cancer (localized and advanced)
- Primary aldosteronism
- Thyroid cancer
- Breast cancer
- GI cancers
- Describe indications for surgery in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism
- Discuss the optimal extent of surgery for patients with low-risk differentiated thyroid cancer, including options for active surveillance
- Participate in discussion of patient management in advanced surgical endocrine disease, including rare malignancies and reoperative thyroidectomy/ parathyroidectomy
- For a breast cancer patient, describe the safety of skin-and nipple-sparing surgical techniques and options for reconstruction that are available to the patient
- For the average woman, describe the breast cancer screening guidelines that exist from different national societies as well as management of benign breast problems found on mammography
- If a breast cancer patient requires chemotherapy or hormonal therapy, discuss the side effects of each treatment
- For the patient who is experiencing lymphedema, describe the treatments available and know when to refer the patient to a therapist
- If a patient is experiencing vaginal symptoms from breast cancer treatment, list the methods available for addressing this problem.
- Discuss the roll-out of the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer
- Discuss liver, peritoneal, nodal and pulmonary metastases as well as the advantages of molecular diagnoses especially evolving therapies for cancers with high mutational burden
- Identify updates in radiation for metastatic CRC including use of total neoadjuvant therapy
- Identify updates in treatment of Gastro-esophageal junction cancers and GIST tumors
