Please scroll down to the "File Attachments" section for PDF copies of the agenda, slide handouts, and instructions for claiming CME credit.

This educational activity is designed to address issues related to Acute and Chronic Aortic Dissection and other acute aortic syndromes. It will familiarize the audience with natural history, surgical techniques, avoidance of complications and new technology. Aortic dissection is a public health issue with a high mortality rate. Efficient prevention, timely recognition, and safe surgery can make a difference in clinical outcomes. Surgical techniques are rapidly evolving and genetic testing is developing, causing changes to the suggested management guidelines.

The keynote speaker for this event is Mark Farber, MD, Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery, Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship and Professor of Surgery at UNC School of Medicine.

Invited speakers for this event will include faculty from the Medical College of Wisconsin and select national leaders in the fields of Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology. Learning content will include didactic lectures and case presentations/panel sessions, with opportunities for participants to participate in the discussion of management of complex patients. Electronic access to lecture materials will be provided.

Target Audience

  • Adult and pediatric patients with aortic disease
  • Vascular surgeons
  • Cardiothoracic surgeons
  • Interventional radiologists
  • General surgeons
  • Cardiologists
  • Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, etc.

Learning Objectives

  • recognize the consequences of failed EVAR and will learn the indications for a timely intervention. Current guidelines will be discussed in collaborative case reviews and panel discussions.
  • create an algorithm for the contemporary management of type B aortic dissection, both complicated and uncomplicated.
  • develop a protocol for appropriate long-term management (medical and surgical) of patients who survived repair of type A aortic dissection. Feedback of experts will be provided for patient-centered decisions, based on Q&A sessions.
