Mental Health and the Muslim Diaspora: Providing Guidance Through a Cultural Lens
Two day Mental Health Conference for behavioral experts to enhance cultural literacy when working with immigrant, refugee and Muslim clients.
Learning Objectives
Participants who engage in this learning intervention will be able to:
- identify how culture influences a Muslim patient’s view of mental health and how the country of origin has its own unique influences on how patients approach health and wellness. Attendees will be able to transfer this understanding and better serve immigrant, refugee and Muslim clients clients
- implement a trauma informed care approach and facilitate recipient self-transcendence through greater cultural and faith-based cognizance and connection particularly when working with refugee clients
- apply culturally sensitive techniques and learn to identify and remove barriers to care that prevent Muslim mental health clients from seeking help
