SA Peer Review is held quarterly for invited medical professionals only.

The Wisconsin Child Abuse Network (WI CAN) Educational Series consists of statewide, web-based lectures and case-based discussions on various topics related to child maltreatment delivered and led by subject matter experts.  The target audience consists of physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, other allied health professionals, law enforcement officials, social workers, and attorneys.  The goal of the educational series is to improve the recognition of child maltreatment and management of cases when child maltreatment is a concern.

Learning objectives: 
Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Describe key statutes and definitions related to commercial sexual exploitation of youth, and explain factors that contribute to vulnerabilities and increased risk.

  • Apply practical, trauma‑informed strategies for screening, engagement, and resource connection for youth at risk for or experiencing commercial sexual exploitation in medical settings.

  • Analyze case scenarios to identify sexually exploited and sex‑trafficked youth in medical settings and determine appropriate mandatory reporting actions and referrals in accordance with state requirements.

Nurses who successfully complete each monthly activity will receive 1.0 nursing contact hours.  Nurses who successfully complete each quarterly activity will receive 1.5 nursing contact hours.

Social Work Contact Hours

Social work continuing education hours are approved as Category I continuing medical education hours which can count towards continuing education hours.
