Program Description: 
Dr. Rholl is a neonatologist and palliative care physician who studies uncertainty in the neonatal intensive care unit. She will present her research on parent and provider experiences with uncertainty as well as review published frameworks for approaching clinical uncertainty. At the end of the presentation, she will explore opportunities for partnering with families when uncertainty exists.
 
Bioethics and Medical Humanities Grand Rounds provides a monthly forum for teaching participants to resolve cases based on the best ethical practices. Bioethics and Medical Humanities Grand Rounds also provides information on any legislative changes that occur so that clinicians are ready to implement them. The Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities is the only clinical ethics center in Wisconsin. The faculty are leaders in clinical ethics and set the agenda for clinical ethics practice in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Analyze parent and provider perspectives on uncertainty in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and their impact on clinical care.
  • Identify and compare frameworks for evaluating uncertainty in clinical care in the NICU.
  • Develop strategies to partner with parents and colleagues in situations of clinical uncertainty in the NICU.
