Program Description: 

Scholarship in Progress is a virtual seminar series that provides opportunity for those engaged in child health in the areas of research, education and quality improvement to share their scholarly activity and promote interaction and opportunities among researchers and providers. Participants are exposed to ongoing activities in basic, translational and clinical research, educational development and quality improvements being performed by researchers and providers within pediatrics and child health.

Learning objectives: 

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

 

 
Review current efforts to standardize care for infants with extremely low birth weight in the neonatal intensive care setting, including protocols aimed at improving consistency and outcomes.
Discuss next steps in developing and refining clinical practice guidelines for infants with extreme prematurity, focusing on evidence-based practices and multidisciplinary collaborations
Identify strategies to monitor adherence to standardized guidelines and support quality improvement in the care of extremely low birth weight infants.
Identify common clinical presentations of Type 1 von Willebrand Disease, including mucocutaneous bleeding symptoms such as epistaxis, easy bruising, and prolonged bleeding.
Review the diagnostic evaluation for suspected including appropriate laboratory testing and interpretation of von Willebrand disease, including appropriate laboratory testing and interpretation of this disease and factor VIII levels.
Describe evidence-based treatment options, including the use of desmopressin, antifibrinolytics, and von Willebrand factor replacement therapy.
