Program Description: 

The APC Lecture Series is designed to enhance clinician competence, improve performance, and positively impact patient outcomes. Participants will gain competence by applying evidence-based guidelines and introducing them into day-to-day practice. The series promotes a culture of continuous improvement, peer-to-peer education, and patient-centered practice that integrates safety, quality, and best practices into daily clinical workflows.

Learning objectives: 
Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
  • Incorporate the exposed patient's perspective into bloodborne pathogen exposure (BBPE) care within ED, OR, or ambulatory care settings to deliver highly patient-centered care.
  • Counsel patients using a shared decision-making framework regarding HIV PEP medications, hepatitis B vaccination, and/or HBIG during clinical evaluations of exposure and source-patient risk.
  • Collaborate with patients, clinical staff, and healthcare management to implement sharps injury reduction strategies and prevent employee injuries during BBPE care encounters.
