Program Description: 

WPA Grand Rounds series features a variety of topics in psychiatry. This virtual series occurs monthly on the last Thursday of the month from 12pm-1pm CST.

Learning objectives: 
Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
  • Analyze the legal, ethical, and clinical principles underlying competency restoration and involuntary treatment processes in Wisconsin, including the balance between individual civil liberties and state interests.
  • Evaluate the impact of Wisconsin statutes, court decisions, and mental health policies on the assessment, treatment, and restoration of competency for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Apply evidence-based and legally informed strategies to address clinical and ethical challenges encountered when treating patients undergoing competency evaluation or restoration, with the goal of improving patient care and legal outcomes.
