Program Description: 

Primary Care providers have identified a need for additional education and resources that support the healthy weight management (HWM) of the children they serve.  This series is intended to impact how participants deliver care through optimizing the nutrition and physical activity counseling they provide.  Sessions will explore how health equity factors, weight bias, clinical nutrition concepts, mental behavioral health and co-morbid conditions influence the effectiveness of healthy weight management. Additionally, the series will introduce participants to Quality Improvement Science and Motivational Interviewing concepts.  Value Based Care will also be highlighted as participants will be encouraged to engage in coding opportunities for nutrition and physical activity.

Learning objectives: 

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to: 

  • Increased understanding of the approach to care for children and adolescents with comorbid conditions associated with obesity
  • Increased awareness of how to navigate the referral process for children and adolescents with comorbid conditions needing additional support and management
