Clinical Genetics Advanced Practice Provider Conference (CGAPP) 2024
This conference is specifically designed for the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) working in a clinical Genetics setting (typically within a Genetics division). If you are unsure if this designation applies to you, please email CGAPP@mcw.edu)
CGAPP is not a credentialing course in Genetics, nor is it designed to be a 101 class to understand the basics of Genetics. CGAPP focuses on the APP who provides care for genetic and metabolic patients on a regular basis. Presentations will include advanced topics within Genetics.
This activity is being supported by an unrestricted educational grant from: Biomarin, Genzyme, and Horizon Amgen.
Target Audience
This activity is intended for advance practice providers currently working in clinical genetics.
We recognize there are other APPs who may order genetic testing or want to know more about basic genetics. This may include APPs working in oncology or neurology services (to name a few). Unfortunately, CGAPP is not appropriate for those individuals currently. Our focus is for the APP truly working in a Genetics division.

- Know the -omics approach to genetics.
- Understand the past, present, and future history of the Undiagnosed Disease Network.
- Learn how neuromodulation is helping functional GI disorders and hypermobile EDS patients.
- Debate ethical considerations in medical genetics.
- Have a foundational understanding of skeletal dysplasias, overgrowth syndromes, and RASopathies
- Learn about the research process, the importance of clinical trials, and what genetics research/clinical trials is the NIH working on.
- Breakout groups will provide an opportunity to learn about additional metabolic topics including PKU and acute concerns, or learn about variant interpretation, best practices with updates in clinical guidelines.
