This 3-4x monthly conference series covers crucial ABP content areas that require further reinforcement or are not covered frequently in clinical care. Specialists throughout the DOP help lead these sessions. The goal is to refresh key concepts that will be applicable to initial or recertification boards for Pediatric Hospital Medicine.

- Analyze the pathophysiologic mechanisms of asthma, including key molecular and cellular targets for therapeutic intervention in children and adults.
- Apply current evidence-based guidelines to select and adjust diagnostic testing and pharmacologic/nonpharmacologic treatment for patients with suspected or confirmed asthma.
- Evaluate potential complications and long-term sequelae of asthma and coordinate appropriate surveillance and chronic disease management strategies.
- Differentiate the pathophysiology of tracheomalacia from asthma, focusing on airway dynamics and implications for respiratory symptoms.
- Initiate appropriate evaluation and first-line management for tracheomalacia, including decisions about when to escalate care and how management differs from asthma.
- Explain the pathophysiology of chronic pulmonary aspiration and its impact on lung structure and function.
- Design an initial diagnostic workup and management plan for patients with dysphagia and chronic pulmonary aspiration, including interdisciplinary consultation and supportive care strategies.
- Monitor for complications and long-term sequelae of dysphagia and chronic pulmonary aspiration and implement appropriate surveillance and management plans to reduce morbidity.
