The Incorporation of Social Determinants of Health into Case-Based Continuing Medical Education

For this study, you will be observing and reviewing case-based continuing medical education (CB CME) activities that are accredited by the Office of Continuing and Professional Development. You need to complete the online training and pass a quiz in EthosCE prior to observing and rating these activities. The online training will give you background knowledge on social determinants of health (SDoH).

A few notes:

  • You may need to download the files to view documents.
  • It should take approximately 30 minutes to go through the content portion of the training. This includes 2 short videos, an article and PowerPoint presentation.

Learning Objectives

Participants in this educational activity will be able to:

  • Define the concept of social determinants of health and identify their main categories (e.g., economic stability, education, neighborhood and environment, healthcare access, social and community context).
  • Explain how social determinants influence health outcomes and contribute to health disparities across populations.
  • Recognize the populations most affected by negative social determinants and describe how these factors impact individual and community health.
  • Apply screening tools and practical strategies to assess social determinants of health in clinical and community settings.
