Medical College of Wisconsin Anesthesia Simulation Program Obtains American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Endorsement

ASA endorsement is a symbol of an elite, top-quality training facility

Milwaukee, WI – The Medical College of Wisconsin Anesthesia Simulation Program is pleased to announce that it achieved the endorsement of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). MCW joins an elite group of 34 currently endorsed centers nationwide currently maintaining this distinction.

“We are proud of the work we do at The MCW Anesthesia Simulation Program and the ASA’s endorsement further reinforces the caliber of training we provide to physicians,” said the program director Dr. Novalija, MD, PhD.

This endorsement is good news for the average patient because increasing evidence suggests that simulation education can have a positive impact on patient safety and quality of care. Anesthesiology has traditionally been at the forefront of simulation research and training, and ASA’s leadership of the endorsement program demonstrates this type of training remains a top-priority for the specialty.

“We are delighted to bestow this recognition on the MCW Anesthesia Simulation Program,” said (Randy Steadman, MD, head of Simulation Education network (SEN) task force). “The ASA’s endorsement will serve as a guidepost for our members and all anesthesiologists who are looking to complete high-quality simulation-based continuing medical education (CME).”

Endorsement Requirements

The approval process is extensive including ASA review of the center’s mission, educational offerings, curriculum development, instructor and course effectiveness, program leadership, infrastructure and standing with ACCME in order to be qualified. Board-certified physicians seek an ASA-endorsed center for simulation education that is required to maintain their certification. Surveys of anesthesiologists completed by the ASA showed that anesthesiologists support high-quality simulation training.
