Medicine, and the specific field of anesthesiology, are changing rapidly. The number of journals describing these changes and the articles describing the investigative work being done has just exploded and, unless following the information in one of our many subspecialties, it would be impossible to remain current with evolving information. This series was designed to provide current information to our faculty, students and staff to allow their care of patients to reflect best practices and to encourage each of them to make a regular practice of seeking new and accurate information so that they can remain current in their practices. The visiting professor series is designed to offer timely, current and critical education to all types of Anesthesia practitioners (faculty, ancillary staff, and residents). The visiting professor series will focus on the integration of new research/literature/techniques into the current knowledge base of the faculty and residents. Much emphasis will be given on how to integrate the information into clinical practices. Speakers are carefully selected based on the quality of the education they will provide the audience (new information/skills/techniques) and the relevance and timeliness to the field of Anesthesiology.

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
- Apply strategies that address language barriers influencing Spanish-speaking patients’ understanding of epidural analgesia.
- Integrate accurate, culturally responsive Spanish terminology—alongside interpreter services—to convey epidural benefits, risks, and procedural steps.
- Perform empathetic communication techniques that support informed consent while gauging patient comprehension, comfort, and analgesia preferences.
- Evaluate standardized clinical reference tools for their role in enhancing workflow efficiency, educational consistency, and patient safety.
- Analyze methods that incorporate provider feedback and workflow-informed design into perioperative quality improvement efforts.
- Measure early anesthesia trainees’ knowledge and confidence regarding blood transfusion principles and Belmont device operation.
- Examine common user errors associated with the Belmont system, with implementation of appropriate troubleshooting approaches.
- Determine changes in trainee confidence and competence following exposure to targeted educational resources.
- Analyze resident-presented quality improvement methodologies with respect to patient safety, clinical outcomes, and healthcare delivery impact.
- Appraise resident quality improvement projects for methodological rigor, feasibility, clinical relevance, and alignment with quality metrics.
- Formulate actionable strategies to translate resident-led quality improvement initiatives into sustainable, system-level enhancements that advance patient care and institutional safety goals.
