- Analyze key methodological and operational challenges in traditional and surgical clinical trials, including issues related to clinical equipoise, recruitment, and generalizability.
- Evaluate how pragmatic and observational trial designs can address limitations of conventional randomized controlled trials, particularly in surgical settings where equipoise may be limited.
- Identify and apply essential design features of pragmatic clinical trials—such as broad eligibility criteria, real-world settings, and patient-centered outcomes—that contribute to generating valid, generalizable, and practice-changing evidence
- Describe key challenges in studying spina bifida, including disease rarity, clinical heterogeneity, variation in management practices, and limitations in the existing evidence base.
- Analyze how variability in patient characteristics and care delivery impacts the design, conduct, and interpretation of clinical research in spina bifida.
- Evaluate the feasibility and value of large-scale, prospective collaborative studies in rare diseases, including the infrastructure, partnerships, and funding required to generate meaningful evidence.
