Disruptive behavior, whether egregious or subtle, has serious consequences for patient care and the functioning of the organization. Unfortunately, many solutions - whether zero-tolerance policies or signed "codes of conduct" - have provide to be woefully inadequant to solving this dangerous problem. A comprehensive and strategic approach to managing behavior - beyond crisis intervention - prevents both dramatic transgressions and chronic, insidious failures to behave in a constructive and professional manner. To that end, this course equips participants with the tools to analyze disruptive incidents, confront disruptive individuals, navigate organizational barriers, and utlimately create a self-correcting culture.
- Understand the consequences of ignoring disruptive behavior on patient care as well as the efficiency of the organization
- Overcome personal barriers that prevent leaders from taking action
- Develop the skills to executive strategic confrontations with disruptive individuals
- Mitigate organizational barriers that might stand in the way of effectively dealing with "protected" disruptors
- Understand how departmental culture can contribute to pervasive disruption
