Academic Advancement Workshop
The Medical College of Wisconsin is an academic center with a traditional rank and tenure process. The College recruits professionals from all over the world and as such must educate these professionals in the process of professional development so they can become successful employees ofthe institution and provide further leadership across clinical, research, and educational endeavors. The barriers to continued successful employment include attrition, dissatisfaction with the promotion process and lack of career goals.
To maintain compliance with the ACCME, this continuing medical education activity addresses three core competencies outlined by ABMS and ACGME including interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and patient care. The rank and tenure process promotes the effective exchange of information both with patients and their families as well as with professional associates. It demands a commitment to carrying out professional responsibilities in an ethical way across diverse patient populations. It encourages compassionate, evidence-based intervention that promotes public health. This event enables learners to understand the promotion process at MCW, formulate their own clinical and professional duties within the MCW framework for career development, and focus their professional responsibilities into tangible career goals.
