Internet Point of Care (POC) CME Nov. 14, 2016

This educational intervention is self-directed learning of a self-identified clinical question through use of evidence-based medical databases that are accessible through the Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries. The physician will identify and consult relevant sources and describe the application of findings to practice.

Databases Utilized
Some sources such as UpToDate offer CME credit through their own mechanisms.  This Internet Point of Care CME activity is designed to facilitate learning and earning credit though mechanisms created by the Medical College of Wisconsin. A number of resources may be acceptable, including but not limited to resources currently found in the Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries:

  • Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews
  • Primary source research found in peer reviewed journals, books, Practice Guidelines as found in our print collection or online full-text in service providers such as ClinicalKey or PubMed.
  • Published information regarding clinical trials such as reports from the Food and Drug Administration, as well as other sources of information produced by federal agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Health.

It is the physician's responsibility to select and use appropriate professional, unbiased, peer reviewed literature to answer self-identified clinical questions to reinforce clinical decision, and to learn new information related to his/her clinical practice for the purpose of improved patient care.

Commercial Support
Databases have been chosen to ensure independence, lack of commercial bias and valid peer-reviewed content.
