Patient-Centered Outcomes Research in Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

Historically, the primary focus of outcomes research in hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) has been on the outcome of overall survival; over the past several years more attention has started to be paid to identifying and conducting research in other significant outcomes of HCT, particularly those that matter most to patients and their caregivers. This type of research is known as patient-centered or patient-reported outcomes research. However, the number of researchers with expertise in patient-reported outcomes and how to measure patient-reported outcomes are few, and a community of researchers does not exist to enhance collaboration. To address these needs, NMDP sought and received an award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) for a two-year project to engage a broad community of research and non-research stakeholders (including patients and caregivers) to develop a research agenda in patient-centered outcomes of HCT. This proposed webinar is part of the work plan for the PCORI award.
