Program Description:
This is a weekly interesting case conference and didactic lecture series primarily presented by MCW body imaging fellows and faculty radiologists. A wide range of basic and advanced body imaging topics are presented, with each conference devoted to evaluating and applying principles of critical thinking and problem-solving in challenging and practical cases in body imaging or to an in-depth review of the imaging of a specific disease process. Invited MCW clinical colleagues also present on their areas of expertise and the role of body imaging in their practice, often leading to a multidisciplinary discussion of ways to improve imaging to meet current clinical needs.

Key Words: Body Imaging, Imaging Technology, Practice Improvement
Target audience:
  • Physicians
Learning objectives:

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  1. In the setting of early PDAC, it is often easier to see the secondary signs rather than the mass itself
    1. Abrupt terminating duct sign
    2. Corona sign
  2. Field defect: Pancreas and IPMNs - patients with IPMNs are prone to developing cancer elsewhere in the pancreas
    1. analogous to cirrhosis and HCC
  3. Acute pancreatitis confined to the pancreatic tail is abnormal and needs explanation
    1. Is there a mass?
    2. Are there findings of chronic pancreatitis?
    3. Is there AIP?
    4. If none, think imaging occult PDAC
  4. Autoimmune pancreatitis/IgG4 disease - consider when there is
    1. Sausage-shaped pancreas
    2. hypodense peripheral rim,
    3. extrapancreatic disease --> biliary strictures, renal involvement, and retroperitoneal fibrosis
  5. Distinction between PDAC and groove pancreatitis can be challenging...
    1. Marked dilation of main pancreatic duct, encasement of vessels, liver lesions (mets), jaundice/weight loss, lack of cysts in groove, lack of alcohol abuse --> favors PDAC
    2. Characteristic location , cysts in the groove, lack of vessel encasement, and alcohol abuse --> favors groove pancreatitis
