Program Description:

The goal of this course is to present advanced principles of grant preparation for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Topics will include: 1) Writing with clarity and purpose, 2) Writing statements of innovation and significance, 3) Research design and translational research (how to write grants with translational impact from the bench to the whole animal and to write grants with clinical relevance). The course will also address how to succinctly state overall and specific hypotheses. The course may suggest specific writing styles that clearly state the importance of the Specific Aims. Much of the course will deal with preparation of the traditional RO1-type application. However, time will also be devoted to other types of awards (i.e., mentored K awards, training grants, and programmatic initiatives).
