Program Description: 

Weekly conference during academic year (Sept-May) to highlight updates and changes to best practice of internal medicine and its subspecialties.

Learning objectives: 

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Consider and evaluate additional data that may affect the standard approach to stroke risk reduction in atrial fibrillation [Systems-Based Practice]. 
  • Evaluate the anatomic and physiologic relationship between the left atrial appendage, atrial fibrillation, and thrombus formation [Medical Knowledge]. 
  • Consider and evaluate additional data that may affect individualized management decisions to stroke risk reduction in atrial fibrillation [Practice-Based Learning and Improvement]. 

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Describe the epidemiology and clinical definition of MGUS. [Medical Knowledge]
  • Determine the pathogenesis of multiple myeloma as well as established risk factors of MGUS progression. [Practice-Based Learning and Improvement]
  • Evaluate how HLA imputation is performed and how it can be applied to infer patients’ HLA genotypes. [Medical Knowledge]

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Identify signs and symptoms that have higher pre-test probabilities and likelihood ratios of bacteremia and how these can be used to guide clinical practice. [Medical Knowledge]
  • Evaluate literature review and incorporate this is into interventions that can be implemented on a system level to target the identified issue of rising blood culture contamination and blood culture overuse. [Practice based learning & improvement]
  • Exemplify how to include all the involved stake holders for a problem including multiple specialties and how to harness their expertise to address a quality improvement issue. [Systems based practice].
