Advances in the Diagnosis & Treatment of Headache for the Practicing Provider
This will be a one day continuing medical education event including various topics on headache medicine.
The Headache Symposium will update practicing physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and therapists on the assessment and evaluation of patients with headache disorders. The conference will focus on various types of headaches including migraine, migraine variants, the trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias and other primary headache disorders. There will be presentation in regard to management and treatment of such conditions including procedures in headache, with new and emerging therapies. Discussion of headaches in special populations including pediatrics and adolescents will also take place. Psychiatric co-morbidities and treatment associated with headache and inpatient and emergency room headache care will be covered. Dr. Stephen Silberstein, director of the Headache Center at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, will be our keynote speaker and present "The Pharmacology of Cannabinoids and How This Pertains to Headache Medicine".

Learning Objectives
- Be able to make a correct diagnosis of headache disorder by being able to seek the appropriate historical information and perform an adequate diagnostic evaluation leading to delivery of best evidenced based care for the patient.
- Be able to recognize the differences between headache in adults and children in the history and the methods of diagnostic evaluation as well as understanding the difference in therapeutic approaches in children compared to adults and be able to make use of these to optimize outcomes.
- To learn the array of cognitive and behavioral strategies that may be used in assessing and providing care across the spectrum of patients thereby maximizing patient centered care, self actualization for the patient and use these as part of a comprehensive evidenced plan of treatment.
