Mechanisms of arterial thrombosis - Dr. Lawrence Brass will cover recent ideas about mechanisms of hemostasis and show how they provide insights into arterial thrombosis and the effects of antiplatelet agents.

Mechanisms of venous thrombosis - Dr. Steffen Massberg will address the cellular and molecular mechanisms of deep vein thrombosis. In particular, he will focus on the role of innate immune cells and he will illustrate how aberration of a physiological process entitled immunothrombosis contributes to DVT.

Hematologist, cardiologist, graduate students, postdocs, clinical fellows, scientists, technologists, and medical students with an interest in the prevention and treatment of arterial thrombosis will be interested in this webinar. In addition vascular biologists, immunologists, platelet researchers, hemostaseologists and clinicians with a focus on thrombotic cardiovascular diseases will be interested in this webinar.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, I will be able to:

  1. Understanding hemostasis and thrombosis from a systems perspective
  2. Optimal and non-optimal responses to injury and disease
  3. Understanding the interplay between platelet signaling networks, emergent properties and the shaping of hemostatic and thrombotic responses
  4. Understanding and predicting the impact of antiplatelet agents (alone and in combination)
  5. To understand the role of innate immune cells in DVT formation
  6. To know the molecular features mediating the cross-talk between thrombosis and immunity during DVT
