Program Description: 

The field of Infectious Disease is quite unique in medicine. Each continent, each country, and even with countries; the types of diseases and disease presentation can vary. Along with that, there is a wide variety of approaches in how to treat particular disease processes. Given then breadth of the infectious diseases, it is quite difficult for an ordinary provider to stay current and abreast of the literature for each of these processes. Thus, it is prudent to have a venue for education and discussion. Further, it is a requirement by the American Medical Association to remain aware of advances in the field for continued board certification.

Learning objectives: 

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Describe the natural history, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment modalities, long term consequences of various infectious disease entities
  • Evaluate new treatment modalities and options with regards to clinical efficacy, safety, indications, alternatives, side effects and cost
  • Analyze evolving antimicrobial resistance trends in our local demographic to assess how to adjust our clinical practice

 Participation shared with ABIM through PARS:

Individual participants’ information will be shared with ABIM through the ACCME Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS). 

 Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 52 Medical Knowledge in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
