This presentation will focus on the diagnostic challenges of APS, the classification of patients at risk and the treatment options.

Pier Luigi Meroni "Treatment options in obstetric APS"

This presentation will focus on the standard therapy to prevent recurrences of obstetric APS and options for refractory patients.Attendees will learn what kind of treatment options are available for obstetric APS.

Biographies

Vittorio Pengo

Vittorio Pengo is a professor of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Cardiac Thoracic and Vascular Sciences, and Director of Thrombosis Center at the University of Padova School of Medicine in Padova, Italy. His clinical interests are in primary/secondary prevention and treatment of venous and arterial thromboembolism and his research is focused on the pathophysiology and treatment of thrombosis. He has authored over 300 original papers in international journals.

 Pier Lugi Meroni

Dr. Pier Luigi Meroni is full professor of Rheumatology at the University of Milan and head of the Division of Rheumatology of the Department of Clinical Sciences and Community Health. 
His clinical and scientific works focus on autoimmune/rheumatic diseases, particularly on the pathogenic role of serum autoantibodies. Author of more than 500 scientific publications in Pub Med; of 47 book chapters and seven books. h-index: 70 (Scopus), 121 (TIS,Top_Italian_Scientists_Biomedical_Sciences).
Dr Meroni won the 1987 Roussel Prize for the studies on the age-associated immunodeficit, the 2005 EULAR Research Prize for the studies on the etiopathogenesis of APS  and the 2014 AESKU Prize for life contribution to autoimmunity. In 2014 he has been nominated Master of the American College of Rheumatology.


His editorial activity is characterized by his inclusion in the editorial board of several journals in the field of rheumatology and autoimmunity (Annals Rheumatic Diseases, Clin Exp. Rheumatol, Autoimmunity, Autoimmunity Review, Lupus, J Autoimmunity, Current Rheumatol. Rev. )
He has been Chairman and then Member of the IUIS/WHO/AF/CDC Sub-Committee for the standardization of diagnostic tests for rheumatic diseases; Member of the ACR ANA Task Force,    Italian representative for the European autoimmunity standardization initiative forum, President of the Forum Interdisciplinare Ricerca Malattie Autoimmuni.


He organized the IVth International Congress on Antiphospholipid Antibodies (1990) and he was co-chairman of the Vth International Congress on Autoimmunity (2006) and of the 12th International Congress on Anti-phospholipid Antibodies (2007). Dr. Meroni has been the scientific organizer of the MENARINI DIAGNOSTICS International Symposia on Autoimmunity (2001-2008). 

Walid Chayoua

Walid Chayouâ was born on the 14th of July 1993 in Heerlen, The Netherlands. In 2016 he obtained his MSc degree in biomedical sciences at Maastricht University. In August 2016 he started his PhD project at the department of Biochemistry in Maastricht under supervision of Dr. B. de Laat, Dr. H. Kelchtermans and Prof. Dr. K. Devreese. His main research topic is centered on the antiphospholipid syndrome. Within his first year as a PhD student, he already presented his work at the European Forum on Antiphospholipid Antibodies in Nancy and will present more work at the Annual Scientific and Standardization Committee (SSC) in Berlin in 2017.
