Program Description: 

Through its educational arm, the ISTH Academy, the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) has begun hosting a series of webinars on practical thrombosis and haemostasis issues that scientists and physicians frequently confront. These webinars will allot time for participants to ask questions and will cover the latest information on relevant topics.

 

Sam Schulman – The Coagulation Cascade

The coagulation cascade is not an isolated phenomenon but takes place on phospholipid bilayers of cell surfaces. It is also an interplay with microparticles, natural inhibitors vascular walls and the inflammatory system.

 

Diane Nugent - Coagulation Disorders

Rare clotting disorders go undiagnosed for years and present a challenge for the busy practitioner as the pathway to final diagnosis requires time to take a thorough family and personal history, as well as a local reference laboratory with capability to go beyond baseline coagulation screen.  This presentation will cover some of the signs and symptoms of the more "common" rare disorders, and provide information on specific diagnostic and therapeutic options.
