Violence Prevention in Milwaukee
Gun violence in the United States is a major public health burden, resulting in approximately 100,000 deaths and injuries each year in the United States. Defining gun violence as a biosocial disease provides a useful framework that pulls in physicians, health care systems and other sectors of civil society to more fully address this vexing burden in our communities. We have made significant strides utilizing this approach with other biosocial disease burdens such as HIV/AIDS.
