12th Annual “State of the Gut” An Update on Gastrointestinal Disorders 2019

Primary care providers as well as physician extenders and nurses frequently encounter gastrointestinal and hepatic disorders in the populations they treat. There have been advances in this area and due to the large amount of medical information available to providers, it is challenging to stay up to date. This is frequently manifested in referrals where inappropriate diagnostic studies and therapies are utilized. These frequently delay appropriate management and may result in harm to the patients. In addition, our faculty receive various communications from providers requesting recommendations to manage this population.

Target Audience

Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, Primary Care Physicians, Registered Nurses, Physician Assistants, Fellows and Residents.

Learning Objectives

1.) Recognize tests available for evaluation of the patient with dysphagia and when to utilize them in different patient populations.

2.) Recognize non-IBD colon disorders in patient cohorts and develop an evaluation plan specific to the patient.

3.) Familiarize oneself with the therapies used in the treatment of constipation as well as their safety profile.

4.) Determine and evaluation plan for the patient who presents with abnormal liver tests.
