Program Description: 

The series focuses on outcomes research in chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease, delivery of care in dialysis units and chronic kidney disease clinics, emerging data on new treatments compared to current standard of care, continuing review of kidney biopsy pathology, and basic science research that may become future therapeutics.

Learning objectives: 

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Recognize the process and journey to be listed for kidney transplant from both physician and patient perspectives.
  • Recognize factors leading to the organ pool shortage and advances to make kidney transplantation more accessible.
  • Recognize the use, indications, benefits, and risks of implantable cardiac devices in acute kidney injury.
  • Recognize the use, indications, benefits, and risks of implantable cardiac devices in end-stage kidney disease.
  • Outline the clinical presentation, histologic findings, and pathophysiology of primary thrombotic microangiopathy.
  • Outline the various secondary causes of thrombotic microangiopathy.
  • Outline data on the role of supportive therapy for IgA nephropathy.
  • Outline data on the role of immunosuppressive therapy for IgA nephropathy.
