Program Description: 

-This series covers our Neurosurgical grand rounds, clinical case presentations, clinicopathologic correlations, journal clubs, adult and also pediatric QI M&M. 
-In covering a wide variety of topics affecting Neurosurgical practice, these predominantly didactic sessions also address learning gaps for attendees, with updates in neuroscience, neurosurgery & its related fields (incl oncology, radiology, neurology, ENT, anesthesia, biomechanics), techniques, medical care best practices, socioeconomics and ethics of medicine, education in medicine, etc.  There is opportunity for discussion with content experts and inquisitive minds.

Learning objectives: 
Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
  • Review the epidemiology and clinical impact of ventriculoperitoneal shunt infections in pediatric hydrocephalus, with a focus on challenges encountered in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Describe the implementation of an adapted Hydrocephalus Clinical Research Network (HCRN)-based perioperative shunt protocol at Children’s Medical Center, Tehran, Iran.
  • Evaluate the impact of protocol implementation on shunt infection rates over a 10-year period and discuss lessons applicable to pediatric neurosurgical practice in resource-constrained settings.
