Together for Children 2018
Participants in the 2018 conference will engage in sessions to increase awareness and education levels regarding child abuse and neglect issues as well as ongoing prevention and treatment efforts. These sessions, presented by field experts, can be utilized to inform future programming and work towards the reduction of child abuse and neglect across communities. “PTSD – To Protect and Serve Those who Protect and Serve” will be presented as the day one keynote for the conference; during this session, participants will learn about the impact the job can have on professionals – with an emphasis on suicide. The presenter will share recommendations for administrative training to prepare, insulate, protect and treat the expected exposure to trauma.
Various workshops will be offered throughout the conference; these include but are not limited to sessions on abusive burns in childhood, gender differences in a child’s experience of sexual abuse, creating a community for mental health, sentinel injuries, 5 years of the Wisconsin ACE study, unusual presentations of child abuse and trial prep and courtroom conduct.
Target Audience
Physicians, nurses, social workers, law enforcement, and prevention staff
Learning Objectives
The purpose is to improve prevention, treatment, investigation and prosecution of child abuse and neglect by providing knowledge and skills to address emerging issues, research questions and public policy changes in child welfare and child protection.
Given that services for victims of child abuse are often offered by different agencies, the participant will gain a better understanding of multidisciplinary approaches to identify and intervene in child maltreatment cases.
