Personality disordered patients often have high medical resource utilization, however providers across specialties have difficulties identifying personality disorder traits, effectively communicating with such patients, and selecting the appropriate personality disorder treatments and referrals.  This educational activity is designed to assist in addressing knowledge gaps while increasing effectiveness and efficiency of treatments.

Lack of education and awareness surrounding identifying personality disorders and navigating the challenges which are present during the provision of care. Incomplete documentation and lack of identification when in the presence of additional Mental Health Concerns.  Lack of available resources for appropriate treatments in many areas, especially northeastern Wisconsin. This activity is designed to provide foundational knowledge in identification, treatment, and interaction with/for those with cluster B personality disorders.  Education on the predisposing and perpetuating factors which lead to ongoing maladaptive behaviors and responses often seen in the clinical setting will allow for more productive patient engagement and treatment. Interaction recommendations, ideal therapy modalities, and psychopharmacology will be discussed.
