Skin & Soft Tissue

Currently, there is no standardized graduate education or certification program for APNs or PAs focusing on Pediatric Hospital Medicine. APPs graduate their educational programs with a wide range of clinical experiences and variation in the quality of their training. APPs require “on the Job” training to build competency.  There are published recommended competencies in pediatric hospital medicine for physicians in training by currently there are no corresponding recommendations for training APPs.

Advanced Practice Providers in Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine

Learning Objectives

  • Review the epidemiology, risk factors and presenting signs and symptoms of skin and soft tissue infections in children
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of necrotizing fasciitis and need for emergent surgical intervention
  • Be familiar with the most common pathogens for skin and soft tissue infections and the appropriate empiric antibiotics
  • Develop confidence in counseling patients and families admitted to the hospital for skin or soft tissue infections
