27th Annual John S. Gould Lectureship/Scientific Program

Milwaukee, WI US
June 28, 2024

The 27th Annual John S. Gould Lectureship/Scientific Program is a research day aimed at advancing the knowledge and science of orthopaedic surgery, encouraging practice-based research to improve patient care, and promoting lifelong learners. This lectureship highlights research conducted by residents, fellows, and faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW).

Target Audience

Orthopaedic alumni, faculty, residents, fellows, medical students, allied health professionals interested in orthopaedic surgery research.

Learning Objectives

Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:

  • Identify the minimal pin length needed for a stable construct using the IJS-E that maximizes distal humerus bone stock.
  • Illustrate the accuracy and ultimately the relevance in pre-operative planning for reverse shoulder arthroplasty and how it can impact clinical practice.
  • Understand the rationale behind targeted muscle reinnervation after surgical amputation and discuss patient-reported outcomes in a cohort of amputees who received targeted muscle reinnervation.
  • Provide additional surgical fixation options for medial malleolus fractures that may provide a stronger biomechanical construct, improve patient outcomes, and possibly reduce the need for reoperations.
  • Decide if surgical use of nitinol staples in conjunction with scaphoid excision is a viable option for four-corner fusion for their patient population.
