Overview
An engaging panel discussion focused on the clinical, ethical, and legal complexities of caring for pregnant and postpartum individuals with substance use disorders. This one-hour session will explore the intersection of healthcare, ethics, and law in supporting this vulnerable population. The panel discussion will equip healthcare providers with the knowledge and resources needed to holistically care for these individuals.

Learning Objectives

- Describe the clinical, ethical, and legal intersection when caring for pregnant and postpartum people with substance use disorders

- Identify local and national community partners who can help you holistically support pregnant and postpartum patients in their recovery
Program
12:00 – Welcome and introductions.
12:05 – Brief didactic explaining why we are discussing this topic, setting the stage and giving the legal landscape overview.
12:20 – Moderated panel discussion:
- How have you seen mandating reporting impacting families?
- Define in your own words supporting approach and how health care professionals can utilize supporting approach rather than mandating reporting?
- What does a team-based approach to care look like in this population and are there community resources you’d like healthcare professionals to know about.
12:50 – Open Q&A to attendees
1:00 – Closing remarks and directions to claim credit.
