Disorders of Pituitary-Adrenal Function Conference
Target Audience
- Endocrinologists
- Primary care providers
- Allied Health Care Professionals
- Fellows
- Medical Students
- Neurosurgeons
Learning Objectives
Participants who engage in this education intervention will be able to:
1. Identify appropriate candidates for hypercortisolism screening among patients with adrenal nodules, difficult-to-control diabetes, obesity, and high-risk comorbidities, and select first-line screening and confirmatory tests based on current evidence and guidelines.
2. Describe the clinical impact of MACS and non-neoplastic hypercortisolism on cardiometabolic, skeletal, neuropsychiatric, and neurocognitive outcomes, and explain the rationale for treating even mild cortisol excess.
3. Apply guideline-concordant approaches to the diagnosis and management of glucocorticoid-induced adrenal insufficiency, including use of salivary cortisol/cortisone, safe tapering of long-term glucocorticoids, and prevention of adrenal crisis.
4. Formulate individualized medical management strategies for Cushing syndrome that integrate newer pharmacologic therapies with surgery and radiotherapy, considering mechanisms of action, efficacy, safety profiles, and drug–drug interactions.
5. Incorporate contemporary data into the management of adult congenital adrenal hyperplasia, including the role of newly approved steroidogenesis antagonists in reducing glucocorticoid burden and optimizing androgen control.
