An exploration of the ethical implications of open access to health records and the challenges facing providers to balance honesty, clarity, and compassion in charting.
Target Audience
This conference is designed for a multidisciplinary audience of physicians and other health care professionals and stakeholders engaged in the ethical, legal, and clinical dimensions of electronic health records (EHRs), particularly as related to the care of vulnerable patient populations.
Learning Objectives
- Identify the ethical implications of patients' and others' open access to the electronic health record, with particular challenges pertaining to psychiatric and adolescent records.
- Explore benefits and concerns pertaining to the patient-provider relationship in the era of open notes.
- Assess best practices and recommendations to balance transparency, patient rights, and privacy protections in electronic health records access particularly for vulnerable populations.
