Program Description:

This educational activity is intended for residents, fellows and attending pathologists in the division of Anatomic Pathology.  The latter, in particular, are the prime target of this exercise, since the level of the discussion around the cases being presented directly impacts on their daily work and does not deal with the basics but with the intangible grey zones in diagnosis which can sometimes only be gleaned from experience (i.e., it may not be possible to find the answers to these problems in standard textbooks or other references).

This educational session caters perfectly to the post-training physicians’ current or potential scope of professional activities because it addresses areas that require applications of professional judgment, experience, and subtle shades of interpretation for morphologic diagnosis and for the interpretation of specialized test results in anatomic pathology that may not be easily obtained from other sources.

The activity will address these needs by providing a venue to view case presentations on a multi-headed microscope.  There is also a video monitor in the room in case the audience exceeds the capacity of the multi-headed microscope.

Discussions are based on:

  1. Educational value;
  2. Unique or rare cases;
  3. Problem cases in which there is controversy regarding the criteria for diagnosis.

These cases will be presented to the group by individual faculty members on a daily basis and will be selected by the faculty attending the conference.
