Participants who engage in this educational intervention will be able to:
- Review the genetic and environmental risk factors for type 1 diabetes
- Know the risk of T1D for the general population and those with a family history to be able to provide accurate counseling
- Learn the nomenclature and rationale for type 1 diabetes “staging” to stratify risk assessment
- Provide counseling to patients and other providers on available screening methods for type 1 diabetes risk to appropriately screen eligible individuals
- Learn about the new FDA approved medication, teplizumab, for delaying type 1 diabtes to provide this disease-modifying therapy to eligible individuals
